Structural analysis in solutions for development in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products
Abst : Solution properties of amphiphilic molecular association contain a variety of structural information like size, shape, size distribution, solubilization states, membrane flexibility and molecular interaction etc. which can be determined by scattering, spectroscopic and microscopy techniques. In particular, Ultra-Small / Small / Wide angle X-ray scattering (U-SAXS, SAXS, WAXS) are a technique to capture structural characteristics from the scattering intensity distribution with respect to electron density fluctuations of samples having a size of a so-called "colloidal domain" such as about 1 nano meter to a few micro meter. Furthermore, knowledge of the state of existence of the target component dissolved in molecular associate solution leads to reinforcement of innovative functional properties of products in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. In this contribution, we describe in detail the usefulness of mainly SAXS and in material development on the solution state of the molecular associations formed by surfactants and proteins, its solubilization characteristics of the ingredients in micelle, emulsion, lamellar phases and protein aggregates.
