“Making all Things New in Christ”
Toward a Thomistic Renewal of Moral Theology
An Homage to Fr. Servais Pinckaers, O.P.
Servais Pinckaers, O.P. has labored for almost half a century to renew Catholic moral theology by deepening its biblical and patristic roots in conversation with contemporary psychology and philosophy. During his more than 25 years as a professor at the University of Fribourg, he worked to free the moral teaching of Thomas Aquinas from the distortions of the manuals of moral theology and to show its contemporary importance. This conference brings together philosophers and theologians from around the world who have been influenced by Fr. Pinckaers’ work. They seek to honor him by bringing their own insights to bear upon issues in theology that have been at the heart of Fr. Pinckaers’ reflections : happiness, virtue, moral development in Christ, freedom, law and life in the Spirit. The conference will conclude with Mass on Sunday morning, October 30th, Fr. Pinckaers’ eightieth birthday.
