Day - 12 months
Information: Students must consult the International Relations Office (SRI) (www.unifr.ch/international/en) to see exchange programmes and possible host universities. They acquaint with the various conditions of participation in exchange programmes and visit the websites of universities they are interested in, evaluating the language requirements and analysing the compatibility of their courses from the university curriculum followed in Switzerland. For BeNeFri, visit www.unifr.ch/benefri.

D - 8 months
Application file: The student completes an application file on the form corresponding to the programme of chosen exchange indicating a choice of several universities. Submit this form for signature to the coordinator of the Faculty. The student can be a candidate in two different programmes. Make sure to respect the deadlines announced by the international relations office! They vary according to the programmes.
The BeNeFri application file can be found on www.unifr.ch/benefri and does not need to be signed by the coordinator of the Faculty. It must be returned early at the beginning of the exchange semester to the office for registration. Without registration in the network BeNeFri, the student cannot claim reimbursement for travel nor participation in examinations.

D - 6 months
Various preparations: Check dates of the semester and exams. Enroll in language classes if necessary. Plan a budget. Think of accommodation as well as identity papers needed. Contact the student associations (eg the International Exchange Erasmus Student Network, ESN, www.esn.org. Wait for an answer from the host university and react immediately if it does not reach you in due time! Stay in touch with the SRI.

D - 6 months
Establishment of the learning agreement: As soon as the student receives an answer from the SRI regarding his/her host university, he/she provides descriptions (content, number of ECTS, type of examination...) of courses chosen abroad (web sites, information from former students...) and prepare a learning agreement (found too at the Dean's office). The learning agreement is discussed with and validated by the academic and mobility advisor of the concerned department.

D - 4 months
Validation of the learning agreement: The student submits to the coordinator of the Faculty the original of the learning agreement approved by the academic and mobility advisor. It will then be validated by the admission delegate and returned to the student.

Abroad
Validation of changes: Once there, changes on the learning agreement are often needed. Any change must be validated by the respective academic and mobility advisor. Without such approval, the student will not be able to validate a successful assessment if undefined in the learning agreement. This change may be made by mail with the advisor (always copy the following email address chantal.achermann@unifr.ch).

Upon return
Exchange file: On his/her return, the student is directed to the coordinator to validate his/her notes, by submitting a file containing documents relating to possible changes in the learning agreement, marks granted and a marking scale of the host university. The file can be sent by post.

D + 3 months
Validation of marks: The admission delegate processes the file and validates only passed marks. The certificate is sent to the student and the Dean's office.
