TITLE: The impact of light on task performance.
ABSTRACT:
Light is a fundamental aspect of the physical environment which has a far-reaching influence, ranging from information intake through visual perception to the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle and mental wellbeing. However, light and illumination have been vastly neglected in past organizational and social-psychological research. The aim of the presentation will be to shed light on the light's impact on task performance, in general, and on creativity, in particular. First, based on the findings of a recent meta-analysis, the different ways through which light can influence human performance will be illustrated. Second, a series of experiments will provide insight into what kind of light facilitates the generation of new ideas.
