Chinese Foreign Direct Investment in Europe and the direct and indirect impact on competitiveness of Switzerland and Swiss FirmsProjet de recherche FNS |
|
Sujet de recherche
|
Most research about China today focuses on the Chinese market place or on multinational companies entering the Chinese market. In contrast, very little research has been conducted so far about the internationalization of Chinese firms outside of China. The research about Chinese foreign direct investments is in its infancy and there is no study which discusses the direct effects of Chinese FDI on Switzerland and Swiss Companies. Since Switzerland's major trading partner is the European Union, this project also assesses Chinese FDI in Europe and its indirect effects on Switzerland and Swiss companies. |

Cluster mapping mechanisms |
| Sujet de recherche |
In spite of the growing intellectual as well as political interest in clusters, scholars and policy makers still face a sweeping lack of data on the subject.
The cluster-mapping project has three main objectives. First, it is devoted to the development of an empirical strategy to compute a database on cluster phenomena in Switzerland in accordance with the findings of economic cluster theory on the one hand, and of existing cluster-mappings on the other. Secondly, it aims at applying the strategy to provide researchers with comprehensive statistical and cartographic data for further research and analysis. Thirdly, the provided data may partly be used to carry out an elementary analysis of the state of cluster development in Switzerland, identifying the country’s most important cluster industries and specific cluster regions. |

International Business and Government Relations |
|
Sujet de recherche
|
The degrees of conflict and cooperation between governments and international firms have varied over time and across countries. Today, the traditional bargaining model of MNC-host country relations has become obsolete, especially in the case of developing countries. The aim of this research is to explore the direction of these relations in the new century and to assess the distribution of gains from international business activities between firms involved and host countries.
