Questions addressed

The ultimate goal of our research is to elucidate the functional role of the newly discovered Parvalbumin-nucleus of the hypothalamus.
The specific aims are to:
► study the genes expressed specifically in this nucleus by in-situ hybridisation and gene-chip technolog
► assess the effects on behaviour of electrolytic and excitotoxic lesioning of the PV1-nucleus
► record the firing of PV1-neurons in freely-moving rats and correlate this activity with specific behavioural patterns
► assess the behavioural effects of selectively activating or inhibiting the PV1-nucleus using optogenetic techniques
