Questions addressed

The main research interest of the laboratory is to study the control mechanisms that regulate blood pressure, cardiac output and energy metabolism, with particular emphasis on the effects of obesity and nutrition. Animal and human physiological experiments are conducted to analyze:
► The impact of weight cycling on fat accumulation and cardiovascular risks factors
► The mechanisms by which weight gain leads to an increase in blood pressure
► The interaction between sugar, fat and salt in developing metabolic and cardiovascular risk profiles
► The effects of caffeinated soft drinks on cardiovascular and autonomic regulation. In addition, the role of the kidney in regulating whole body metabolism is analyzed with the study of uninephrectomized animals, to test whether decreased renal function can promote a metabolic syndrome
