We perform research on the neural mechanisms of cognition and learning in the visual system. We combine sophisticated behavioral training with a number of state-of-the-art experimental techniques, including multi electrode recordings of spikes and local field potentials, deep-brain stimulation, in vivo neurochemical monitoring and pharmacological manipulations. Our research focuses on the role of Cholinergic neuromodulation on attention, learning and memory in tree shrew and non-human primate animal models. We are also developing analytical chemistry techniques for in vivo monitoring and of neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and neuropeptides using Mass Spectrometry, and applying them to study brain function. |
