International Conference hosted by the Institute of Federalism
On 12 and 13 October, the Institute of Federalism of the University of Fribourg hosted an international Conference on «The Principle of Equality in Diverse States». The two-day Conference was dedicated to the recent developments in the fields of federalism, and directors of Centers for Federal Studies from all over the world together with other experts in the field of legal, political and economic sciences dealing with state administration and conflict resolution attended the scientific debate.
In view of the latest developments in Catalonia and the difficulties the association’s member in Barcelona is facing since being subjected to investigations, searches and seizures, the directors of the International Association of Centers for Federal Studies (IACFS) adopted a Declaration demanding the respect of academic freedom and urging the Governments of Spain and Catalonia to take up negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. The directors remind all parties that a federal division of powers offers many opportunities that allow for the accommodation of diversity and for collaboration based on partnership.
