  • The „American College Program“ of the University of Fribourg regulary offers an interdisciplinary summer course „Survey of International Organizations” (SIO). This four-week course has an attractive content, including lectures by university professors, presentations of representatives of political or governmental institutions, presentations by company executives, and visits to international organizations, e.g. in Geneva or Strasbourg. For a detailed programme, click here. The fee for the course can be seen in the information sheet; the application procedure is described in another sheet.

For the Master in European Business, we accept this course for 4.5 ECTS. It can be used for the module “others” in which, as the reglement allows, up to 9 ECTS can be done in courses which are not part of the faculty programme. The SIO-course can be considered as one of these courses.

We think, this is an interesting opportunity for a comprehensive course on different issues in the international context and can be a useful complementary course for your studies.

  • Recently, the second edition of the textbook „Strategic International Management – Text and Cases”, written by Prof. Dr. Dirk Morschett together with his colleagues Prof. Dr. Hanna Schramm-Klein (University of Siegen, Germany) and Prof. Dr. Joachim Zentes (Saarland University, Germany), has been published.
"Strategic International Management" takes a global perspective and covers the major aspects of international business strategies. It introduces the complexity of international business based on the perspective of Multinational Corporations as inter-organisational and intra-organisational networks. The authors highlight the role of the external environment, discuss the major coordination mechanisms and organisational structures and examine various foreign operation modes. The book describes the particularities of international value chain activities and management functions and offers a thorough understanding of how Production & Sourcing, Research & Development, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Controlling have to be designed in an international company and what models are available to understand those activities in an international context. In 20 lessons, a comprehensive overview of all key issues is given. Each lesson is accompanied by a case study from an international company to facilitate the understanding of all important factors involved in strategic international management.

  • Prof. Morschett is member of the editorial team of the newly established book series "European Retail Research", a project that follows in the tradition of the book series "Handelsforschung" that has been published in Germany for more than 20 years. The most recent issue of the book has just been published. For further information, please click here.
