The IICEE coordinates, organizes and initiates the Eastern European competences and interests of the University of Fribourg. |
History
The competence for Eastern Europe has a long tradition at the University of Fribourg. Already prior to the turn of events in 1989/91, close contacts had been established and cultivated with universities and professors in Eastern Europe. The Eastern European Institute was founded in 1957, later became the IICEE (Interfaculty Institute for Central and Eastern Europe). The competence for Eastern Europe has a long tradition at the Today’s chair in Slavic languages and literature was established in 1889, making it the longest standing in Switzerland.
