Archaeometry of ancient stones and mortars

Stones have been used by humans for thousands years. It has been the primary material for tools (flint, grinding stones, etc.), artworks (marble, mosaics, etc.) and building. Mineral ressources are also used to produce many important commodities (salt, plaster, mortars, pigments, etc). The investigation of stone artefacts by the techniques used in Natural Sciences leads to the location of the material source and the understanding of the technologies.

The site provides outlines on our current research, our laboratory facilities and our recent publications.
