For my PhD thesis, I’ll try to assess
the precise relationship between the tectonics of the Fribourg Zone and
the seismicity it generates. The Fribourg Zone is located East and
North of the city of Fribourg, and has recently received a lot of
attention due to the fact that it seems to be a zone of increased
seismic activity.
The aim of my PhD project will be to investigate the spatio-temporal distribution of microseismicity in the Fribourg Zone, with a special focus on very weak events (ML >= -1.0).
Added to the
Swiss seismic catalog, this high-resolution characterization of local
seismicity will allow assessing the size, position, and depth of
presently active and/or inactive fault zones and thus get a better idea
of the 3D picture.
