What did coral reefs, tropical lagoons, and beaches look like in the distant geologic past? How did they react to sea-level and climatic changes? In which ways were they different from today's environments? These are the questions that intrigue me most. Born in 1947, travelling the world, PhD at the ETH in Zurich, post-doc in Geneva, associated professor in Fribourg, engaged in local, national, and international committees and societies, writing papers and doing reviews, teaching at the university and guiding fieldtrips – life is busy and fascinating – and I'm still looking for the answers.
