Department History
Earth Sciences at the University of Fribourg are part of the Department of Geosciences, together with Geography. Initially there were two distinct institutes in the broader field of geology: mineralogy - petrography and geology - paleontology, which were fonded in 1896.
They were both hosted in the same building (picture around 1902).
Since 2000 the three institutes have been merged into one structure: the Department of Geosciences.
