Human GEOGRAPHY

Human Geography studies social, economic and power relations producing space. These relationships comprise institutional arrangements and use of technologies in specific material environments.

Our team is particularly interested in nature – society relationships, the differentiated conceptions and material expressions of nature, f.e. in water, land and park management systems but also in urban green spaces and migrations related with environmental change.

At the Geography Unit of the University of Fribourg, research in Human Geography focuses on Political Ecology and Environmental History, Urban SocioNatures, and Forced Migration and Environmental Change.

Our research expertise includes Central Asia, Western and Southern Africa, Oceania, Europe and Switzerland.
