Since 2001, the Réseau romand de mentoring pour femmes and Mentoring Deutschschweiz have been engaged in the promotion of academic careers and gender equality. At the time when the programmes started to offer their services to women, formal career development structures (such as transferable skills course programmes) were largely inexistent at individual universities in Switzerland.
During these past 15 years, nearly 500 women academics at doctoral and postdoctoral stages have benefited from workshops, coaching sessions, and mentoring by female and male professors from Switzerland and abroad. Many of the former mentees have now become professors themselves and support the advancement of your researchers as group leaders, supervisors and mentors. Other programme participants have continued working in science, in academic services or they have used the skills developed to find gainful employment in the private or public sector.
Against this backdrop, the Réseau romand de mentoring pour femmes and Mentoring Deutschschweiz organised the professional development and networking event "Research, teaching, leadership... What are the demands on today's professors? for former and current mentors, mentees, programme managers and partners at the collaborating universities and beyond on 22nd January 2016 in Berne.
