This PhD thesis aims at investigating the cognitive and behavioral processes involved in collective decision-making in pedestrian groups with an approach that tightly combines experiments with models. We are looking for a student, familiar with the tools of statistical physics and the use of numerical simulations, which will participate in the design and analysis of dedicated experiments, and in the analytical and numerical study of theoretical models inspired from statistical physics and based on these experiments. Only non-French students can apply to the present PhD fellowship. Candidates must contact (complete CV and, if possible, a recommendation letter from a responsible of Master studies) both advisors (see the last page of this document) ideally before June 16th 2013. The position will start on October 2013 and the net salary (for 36 months) is around 1450€/month, including medical coverage. LPT and CRCA will cover travel expanses to Toulouse, a lively student city in the southwest of France.
The International Conference on EconoPhysics which will be held in Kavala Greece on September, 13-14, 2013. The conference is organized by Kavala’s Institute of Technology. Research papers have to be submitted by June 30th, 2013.
The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics welcomes the summer with a diverse range of summer schools in economics and related fields. These short summer programs are addressed to researchers, professionals and graduate students who want to improve their competences in specific fields of knowledge. Renowned academics and leading practitioners teach our summer school courses, which draw participants from all over the world. The 2013 summer course offering includes four professionally-oriented summer schools: Labor Economics Summer School, Banking Summer School, Microeconometrics Summer School, Macroeconometrics Summer School.
The Complex Systems Team is looking for a person interested in developing mathematical models for energy markets. The research is being done in cooperation with the Polish Transmission System Operator. The main task is to develop (i) computationally effective methods of designing sustainable energy market structures (uniform/zonal/nodal) and (ii) methods of market structures assessment.
The Group of Complex Systems and Random Networks (GNET) invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in the field of multiplex networks to develop analytic and computational tools for the study of the structural properties and dynamics of multiplex and interdependent networks.
The 2013 edition addresses PhD students and young researchers to the forefront of research activity on data mining and computational models for dynamic networks and social behavior. Recognized authorities in the field will give formal lectures tailoring these for an interdisciplinary audience. Participants will also have the opportunity to present the results of their research during a short communication session. As a whole, the planned summer school will allow participants to be exposed to cutting edge results in one of the most challenging research area, while at the same time enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of one of the most beautiful Italian islands.
We are searching for a creative and highly motivated researcher who is fascinated by the relationship between information flow on the Internet and real world behaviour, and who is keen to build interactive tools to allow various external stakeholders to explore this relationship, to work with Tobias Preis, Helen Susannah Moat and Nick Chater in the Behavioural Science Group at Warwick Business School.
The Journal of Statistical Physics has recently published a special issue on Statistical Mechanics and Social Sciences with contributions by several researchers from this field.

The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is seeking to recruit postdoctoral research fellows to work in a research group within MPIDR directed by Prof. Dr. Frans Willekens. The new group will start on 1 April 2013 for an expected duration of three years and its work will focus on agent-based modeling (ABM) of international migration. The objective is to develop simulation models of causal mechanisms driving international migration. How do migration patterns emerge? Which feedback mechanisms give rise to migration systems?
