Vittoria Colizza, senior researcher at ISI Foundation (Turin, Italy) and at Inserm (Paris, France) is this year’s recipient of the Young Scientist Award for Socio and Econophysics. This is the third time that an Italian scientist receives the award of the German Physical Society (after Fabrizio Lillo in 2008 and Santo Fortunato, ISI researcher as well, in 2011), among the most prestigious prizes in the world in the field of the physics of social and economic systems, assigned to researchers under 40. Colizza receives today the prize in Regensburg, Germany, during the annual meeting of the German Physical Society.

Prof. Helbing's Chair of Sociology at ETH Zurich, in particular of Modeling and Simulation, has an interdisciplinary focus, bringing together sociologists, physicists, political scientists, and computer scientists in order to answer fundamental scientific questions regarding socially interactive systems, using a quantitative approach. In particular, the team uses a combination of modeling, simulation, data mining and experiments to address fundamental questions concerning the way our society works. Prof. Helbing is looking for 1 highly motivated postdoctoral student with a background in massive agent-based simulation of artificial societies using evolutionary game theoretical models for the ERC Advanced Investigator Grant "Momentum – Modeling the Emergence of Social Complexity and Order: How Individual and Societal Complexity Co-Evolve".

Call for papers: INET Conference 2013 - Interlinkages and systemic risk

The Global Financial Crisis and the ensuing Great Recession call for new ideas in the modeling of the interplay between the financial system and the real economy. Several international reforms are pointing in the direction of increased monitoring, surveillance and regulation of different types of interlinkages. The demand for a deeper understanding of systemic risks that stem from interconnectedness, and their effects on the financing of real activities, is exceptionally high. The goal of the Workshop is to realize a gathering of an interdisciplinary group of researchers working in different areas, to improve the analysis and the modeling of interlinkages and the associated systemic risks.
