Master of Law with the Special Mention «Bilingual»

For those wanting to work as a lawyer in Switzerland, it is necessary to have good skills in both German and French. For this reason, the Faculty of Law offers students the possibility to complete certain courses in the second language, and in this way earn the Special Mention «Bilingual».

The Special Mention «Bilingual Master of Law» can be earned in two different ways:
  • With the bilingual Bachelor of Law: at least 40 % of the credit points in the Master’s degree have to be earned in the second language.
  • Without the bilingual Bachelor of Law: at least 40 % of the credit points in the Master’s degree have to be earned in the second language. A thesis must be written in the second language – a Master’s thesis or another written work, which must be accepted by a professor.

Master of Law with the Special Mention «Religious Law» / «Utriusque Iuris»

Questions concerning religious issues are again becoming popular topics of discussion. Switzerland has complex and varied laws on questions dealing the relationship of the state and the church. These are being discussed in various cantons as well as on the federal level. In addition, the Christian churches as well as the Jewish and Islamic communities have their own specific internal laws. For those students who are interested in the questions that arise at the intersectoin of religion and law, there is the possibility to earn the special mention «Utriusque Iuris» / «Religious Law».

In order to earn this special mention, the candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • The candidate must already be in possession of the Bachelor of Law with the Special Mention «Religious Law» («Utriusque Iuris») and must have passed the course «Intensive Course on Religious Law»; or
  • The candidate must pass the exams in the courses «Introduction to Religious Law» and «Intensive Course on Religious Law».
