Law Studies in Fribourg

The University of Fribourg’s Faculty of Law offers a high standing, widely diversified instruction covering all areas of a complete education in law. At the Bachelor’s level , the traditional subjects applicable to national law, Public Law, Private Law, Criminal Law, International Law and Social Law are covered, in addition to general subjects such as Roman Law, History of Law and Philosophy of Law.

The Master level in Fribourg also fosters personal and social competence. This goal is served especially in the interactive intensive courses in which the students can immerse themselves in chosen areas of the law.

The faculty issues the following diplomas:

  • Bachelor of Law (B Law) with the possibility to earn the special mentions «Bilingual», «European Law» and/or «Religious Law» (Utriusque Iuris)

  • Master of Law (M Law) with the possibility to earn special mentions and profiles .

    • Special mentions: «Religious Law» (Utriusque Iuris), and «Bilingual».

    • Profiles: «Practise and Procedures of Law» («Praxismaster»), «European and International Law», «Business, Contract and Property», «Family and Society», «Criminal Law» as well as «State, Constitution and Administration».

The Fribourg Faculty of Law is the only bilingual law faculty in Switzerland. All courses are offered in French and German, and it is possible to study law in one language or in both languages.
