Recognition
Students from the University of Fribourg on study placement at Swiss or foreign universities
Students who have, during a study placement, passed an examination or written a seminar paper in another Swiss or foreign university should, only upon returning to Fribourg, submit a written request of recognition to the Commission of equivalent academic qualifications of the Faculty of Law. No guarantee of equivalence can be given before leaving for a study placement.
Students who have started their studies or obtained a first degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in another Swiss or foreign university, and who wish to continue their law studies at Fribourg, can also submit a written request of recognition to the Commission of equivalent academic qualifications (for a long as they satisfy the conditions for admission to the University of Fribourg ).
The following general principles govern requests for recognition :
- Recognition is only accorded for examinations that have been passed.
- Grades obtained in another university are neither converted nor taken into account, except in the case of BENEFRI, the CTLS and of the double degree programme Fribourg / Paris II.
- Recognition applications have to be submitted together with copies of the relevant certificates, brief descriptions of course contents (for Swiss Mobility detailed outlines are required), the form of recognition and written papers
- Requests for recognition must be submitted as early as possible. A subsequent request for supplementary or wider recognition must be submitted within thirty days following the decision of the Commission.
- The final decision belongs to the Commission of equivalent academic qualifications which statutes on each case individually.
Swiss or foreign students on a study placement at Fribourg
Swiss or foreign students on a study placement at Fribourg should obtain information from their respective home university for all questions concerning the recognition of examinations passed and study achievements accomplished at Fribourg (conditions, deadlines, procedure, study contract, etc.)
Conversion of the grades into another system of evaluation will not be made.
Attestation of grades – grade transcriptsAt the end of each examination session, an attestation of the grades obtained is compiled. The original version is sent to the coordinator of the home university. The student receives, if desired, a copy of the attestation. Grades are not communicated by telephone, e-mail or fax.
Students participating in the Swiss mobility programme directly receive the original version of the attestation of grades.
Students who have passed examinations in one or more faculties, in addition to those in the Faculty of Law, and who wish that all the results figure on a single document, should request a « transcript of records » from the International Relations Office by presenting a copy of the attestations of results and a copy of the “blue notebook”.
At Fribourg, the grading scheme is composed of full and half grade increments ranging from 1 to 6, where 6 is the best grade and 1 the worst. The minimum grade for passing = 4.0
Conversion of the grades into another system of evaluation will not be made.
