Center For Transnational Legal Studies, London under the auspices of Georgetown University Law Center
“The Center for Transnational Legal Studies” (CTLS) is a joint education center with premier law schools from countries around the world, where highly qualified students will pursue legal studies together with outstanding faculty from the participating schools. Students may study at the Center for either one or two semesters. They will come from the founding institutions, affiliated schools or as independent students. Each student will have completed his or her foundational legal studies and will be capable of advanced legal studies. The CTLS is located in the heart of London’s legal Quarter.”

The goal of the CTLS is to educate lawyers to be effective dealing with clients, problems, and issues that cross borders by providing –through the curriculum the knowledge and skills that a lawyer needs to be effective in this context.
The courses will deal with the following topics: Commercial and Corporate Law, International Trade Law, International Dispute Settlement, Public International Law and Issues in Public Law, International Health and Human Rights, Comparative Law.
How shall one proceed to apply?
Fribourg University Law School students may enrol upon application, admission and payment of appropriate tuition at their home university. A maximum of seven students will be selected per semester. Students as independent applicants may also be enrolled upon application, admission and payment of appropriate tuition at the CTLS.
To apply a student must avec completed his or her Bachelor studies and s-he must be fluent in English.
The student must send to the Law School’s Erasmus and International Relations Office his or her application file composed of the application form, a curriculum vitae with picture, a statement of interest, a transcript of records and a language certificate (if no certificate is available, the Selection Committee reserves the right to require an English proficiency test).

How shall one proceed for the recognition of the exams passed at the CTLS?
The recognition principles decreed by the Equivalence Committee of the Fribourg University Law School apply for the recognition of the exams passed during the study period at the CTLS. Students should refer to the information published in the document named « Anerkennung von im Ausland abgelegten Prüfungen und weiter Studienleistungen; Prinzipien der Äquivalenzkommission » available in the field « Anerkennung » of this chapter.

Health insurance and Civil Liability Insurance: students must make sure that their health insurance and civil liability insurance provides them with a coverage while studying abroad.
Visa: students must check with the local British Representation whether they need a visa or not.
