Master registration
Master of Science in Biology

Admission & Registration

A Bachelor degree is a pre-requisite for the Master Programme in Biology. That is, by the beginning of the first semester of the Master programme, the student must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Biology or Biochemistry at a Swiss University (including ETH/EPFL), or for an equivalent degree from a foreign university (subject to approval by the Faculty of Science). Bachelor degrees from most European public universities will be accepted. To find out if your degree will be accepted write to The Committee for Student Requests (Commission de requête des étudiants, Faculté des sciences, ch. du Musée 8, CH-1700 Fribourg). In special cases the Faculty may also request that the candidate takes additional courses or other complements. If these additional courses amount to less than 15 ECTS credits, the student may attend them during any of the three semesters of the Master programme and they will be credited as part of the required elective courses. If the imposed courses amount to more than 15 ECTS credits, the student will only be able to begin her/his Master studies once the prescribed conditions have been met.

If your are not yet a student at the University of Fribourg, and you plan to enter the Master programme, you have to register (online or by mail) with the Office for Admissions and Registration of the University:

Office for Admissions and Registration (English)

Service d'admission et d'inscription (français)

Dienstelle für Zulassung und Einschreibung (Deutsch)

On those pages you will also find information concerning necessary documents, fees, and estimated costs of living and studying in Fribourg.

The registration deadline for the coming academic year is the 30th April. For information contact Dr Alessandro Puoti. Students already registered at the University of Fribourg for Bachelor do not need to register for the Master.
