Group Theilig

Research interests
Our group works on: Renal mechanisms of volume retention in health and in proteinuric kidney disease, the pathology of the progression of chronic kidney disease, renal proximal tubular endocytosis and its mechanisms, regulation of proximal tubular aquaporin-1 and its involvement in glomerular-tubular balance, the role of the gap junction channels connexin 37 and 43 in kidney function, role of corin and ANP signalling in the kidney
Experimental techniques: disease models of rat and mouse; generation of mouse models (knock-out, transgen); cell culture of epithelial cells, transfection transient/ stabil; all techniques of immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy und electron microscopy; RNA-isolation/ TaqMan analysis; si-RNA, biochemical methods (western blot, IP, pull down), molecular biology

Double labelling of megalin (red) and angiotensinogen (AGT, green) in a renal proximal tubular profile of megalin conditional knockout mice. Renal proximal tubular AGT expression strongly depends on the availability of megalin. Bar = 10µm.
