Break in studies

You have the possibility to temporarily interrupt your studies in case of :

  • illness
  • maternity or paternity
  • military or civil service
  • study related project recognised by the Dean's office

 

Application for a break in studies

Please fill in the relevant form and send it to the Office for Admissions and Registration together with the required documents:

  • medical certificate
  • birth certificate/copy of family register
  • notification of military service
  • confirmation letter from the Dean's office

Autumn semester 30th September
Spring semester 28th February


An application to suspend studies is valid for one semester only.

 

Effects of the break in studies

During the break in studies you may not attend lectures, exercises or seminars, take part in practical work, hand in written work or register for examinations.

 

Maximum number of breaks accorded

You can obtain up to a maximum of 4 breaks in studies during all of your studies at the University of Fribourg.

 

Payment of the semester tuition fee

The tuition fee is not due for any semester in which a student has suspended her studies. However, the basic registration fees (CHF 115.-) must continue to be paid.
