Application procedure

Faculty of Science

If you wish to apply for a doctorate or a postdoctorate at the Faculty of Science, you should initially contact the Dean’s Office at the faculty for information on the procedure to be followed.

1. Contact a professor

Before applying for a doctorate please make contact with a professor who could be interested in your candidature and who is willing to supervise your thesis work.

2. Application

Please apply online.

3. Payment of the application fee

When you apply online you may pay CHF 50.- by credit card. You can also make your payment by interbank transfer using the account details printed on the invoice. If you choose this option you must include proof of payment with the other documents required to complete your application.

4. Expedition of the documents required for the handling of the application for admission

5. Handling of the application for admission and decision

When we have received all your documents, your application will be handled by:

  • the Office for Admissions and Registration who will formally analyse your application and decide whether or not you may be admitted to a doctorate or a postdoctorate programme;
  • then by the faculty concerned which will decide whether the faculty requirements have been fulfilled.

When your application has been returned by the faculty we will mail you a written decision.

6. Presentation of the original version of your qualifications

In any case, you must present the original version of the qualifications required for admission, either by:

  • post;
  • personally presenting the documents during the opening hours of the Office for Admissions and Registration.

7. Final decision of admission

After fulfilling all of the conditions for admission and presenting the original version of your qualifications you will receive a final written decision of admission.

8. Expedition of the invoice for the semester tuition fee

You will receive an invoice for the payment of the semester tuition fee.

9. Access to university facilities / beginning of studies

Along with your bill you will receive information concerning your e-Account which you must activate.

Once you have paid the semester tuition fee (but at the very earliest one week after payment) you can:

• receive a Campus Card;
• print your attestation of registration at MyUniFR.
