Conditions of admission

General characteristics of qualifications

A foreign General certificate of Secondary Education is considered to be "general" if it is essentially equivalent in the subject matter covered, and in the hours of presence required for the studies, as Swiss qualifications.

List of countries

You will find in this list the conditions for admission for each country.

Attestation of a place of study

If a place of study is required, you must present evidence that you have been admitted to a university in the country where your matriculation was awarded.

Proof of sufficient language skills

French and German are the official teaching languages of the University of Fribourg at the Bachelor level and are the languages used by the administration.

The University requires that future students in all study programmes have sufficient skills in French or German to be able to follow lectures and express themselves correctly, both orally and in writing, within the context of their university studies.

Consequently, foreign candidates must present proof of sufficient language skills in French or German. The level corresponds to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages established by the Council of Europe.

Entrance examination (Complementary examination of Swiss universities)

When the foreign qualification for admission has only been partially recognized, candidates may be required to pass the Complementary examination of Swiss universities.
